Gemini - Llewellyn Worldwide by juliedillon Gemini - Llewellyn Worldwide by juliedillon
Here is the next image I did for the Llewellyn Worldwide 2014 Astrology Calendar. :)

Gemini: May 21 - June 21. Mutable Air sign. Intellectual, dual-minded, curious, young at heart, easily distracted. Colors: Yellow and monotone shades. Associated with communication, libraries, books, education, and passing on information. Has a myriad of interests but doesn't always follow through. Gemini is traditionally known as the Twins, so I've depicted the sign as twin youths (perhaps with short attention spans) running around in a huge library sifting through papers and books. (Note: the papers weren't torn out of the books; maybe they’re just notes that they’ve taken that are flying around).

You can preorder the calendar if you like, or just check out the rest of Llewellyn Worldwide's offerings at www.llewellyn.com.

That's me!
Tee hee, easily distracted...
The part having to do with books and libraries is extremely accurate. BOOKS ARE MY LIFE!!! And drawing. And music. And trees. And friends. Hmmm, I suppose the "myriad of interests" part is accurate as well. :) And I have a twin. (Other people say she's just my best friend/ cousin, but we know better.) Her name is Juli. We're from another planet. ;) (Wink)

Yeah. It's pretty cool. ;p

The only thing here that really doesn't suit me is the set of colors. I prefer blue and green. :) But this is an extremely well done piece.

Why did u make it not like the others...the others r colorful n awesome...I mean this is good but not as good as the others...it would be great if u make a pic of a man pulls out of his own image from a mirror or water. ..I'm protesting coz I'm gemini. :)

Well, in part because the client specifically requested that I not do a mirror or water image; in part because it was based on several Gemini traits andsymbols, and tings that my Gemini friends like; and in part because every sign is different, not every illustration is going to be approached the same way. There are lots of other interpretations out there of Gemini if you don't like this one. :)

I love the way you've worked in curves in the library design. It's wonderful. I've visited so many libraries in my life and too few of them had a profusion of curvy elements like this.

Absolutely adorable! Echoing Aquamind, approximately how long does it take for you to paint each piece? There are so many seamless details but you make them seem so effortless; as if every stroke was coincidence and everything flowed into the next shape.

Thanks so much!! It's hard to tell exactly how long each takes, since I was working on them all at the same time and rotating through them (when I got tired/annoyed with one I'd go work on another), but I'd guess 15-20+ hours each, from start to finish. They were all due at the end of the year, and the last half of December was a bit of a mad rush to get them all wrapped up, haha. ^^; I'm glad you like how they turned out, and that it looks like I sort of know what I'm doing. It definitely wasn't effortless, lots of frustration and pulling of hair (not literally, but you know.) XD I'm very relieved you think it looks halfway cohesive. :D

Like your work (as a Gemini ;) ) and everything you wrote really fits on me. A little weird...

Anyway, just wodering... what is a monotone shade?

"Monotone shade" probably might not have been the best way to phrase it (I was quoting from the brief I was sent for each sign), but a monotone/monochromatic color scheme is when you have various shades of a single color (for example, in this case, yellow) plus black and white. Very minimal amounts of any other hue, if any. It's like if you had to do a painting with just variations of yellow (or red, blue; doesn't have to be yellow etc), plus black and white. In this case, I didn't do a strict monochromatic color scheme, there are a few hints of blue and red, but I tried to keep it limited to various shades of ochre, plus gray/black/white. :)

Thanks a lot for the explanation :)
And even though some yellows are pretty nice my one and only favourite colour will be red. So I do like that the twins are gingers ;)

Can I ask you something? How many hours do you spend for each of this zodiac? I mean you post it one per day and all of them are soo good :D

This is a project I've been working on for the past several months; I just recently got permission to post them, and I decided to release them one day at a time rather than all at once. There's no way I could complete one per day start to finish! XD I wish I could, but I'm way too slow. I'd say each one is about 15-20+ hours worth of work, probably. :)

Oww, you already finished drawing all of them. I think this is still ongoing, haha XD
But 15-20hrs for each is worth it, they are amazing...you must be very patient for did the detail :D
